Manufacturer's Description
LED Back-lit Technology TV
How does Samsung make it so slim? There can be only one thinnest, clearest, most elegant television. Easily, it's Samsung's LED. Breathtakingly thin, it's designed as one seamless piece of flawless crystal. On its LED screen, vivid details are captured in every frame. Picture edge-blur removed and full, robust colour restored to each pixel. Watch television programs, web content or your own, knowing you're also being kind to the environment. It's a remarkable feat of design, on or off.
LED Technology
What is LED?
Standard LCD TVs use a simple constant fluorescent lamp backlight to illuminate the image on the screen. But this type of lamp is too bright to display decent black images, so blacks can look grey and washed out. Fluorescent light also includes unwanted colours such as orange, yellow and cyan which are difficult to filter without reducing screen brightness.
How does Samsung make it so slim?
Samsung takes slimness a step further by arranging the LEDs around the outside of the screen and pointing them inwards. This optimised structure makes the Samsung LED TV incredibly slim. Some models are a mere 29mm!
Light Emitting Diode (LED) is a new technology that converts electric energy directly into light, producing a dramatic improvement in contrast and colour rendering. LED has a narrower spectrum of light with fewer unwanted colours.
Why is the Samsung picture so much better?
Samsung LED replaces ordinary fluorescent backlights with multiple LEDs that brighten, dim or turn off altogether depending on the picture on the screen giving you deep authentic blacks and a greater subtlety of colour gradiation in between.
1080p Full HD 1080p Full HD
Discover the Full HD difference. 1080p Full HD refers to images that are displayed at 1920 x 1080 resolution. With 1.5 times the scanning lines of conventional HD TV, Full HD offers more pixels, more details and superior picture clarity.
Ultra Slim
By using smaller lamps and a thinner diffuser sheet, Samsung LED TVs are 70% slimmer than equivalent fluorescent backlit televisions. This optimised structure makes the Samsung LED incredibly slim - just 29.9mm!
Mega Dynamic Contrast Ratio
LED backlight technology allows for greater contrast levels, so bright images become brighter and dark images become darker.
Motion Plus
Conventional TVs display visuals at a 50Hz frame rate which means it shows 50 still images per second. Samsung Motion Plus™ runs at 100Hz or 200Hz (dependent on model), twice the rate or more of ordinary televisions, so even the fastest action scenes are precise, clear and blur-free.
Motion Plus™ works by intelligently estimating the on-screen action. Then it creates and inserts extra frames between frames. The result is a seamless, blur-free viewing experience that's perfect for sports and other fast-motion including scrolling text.
Ultra Clear Panel®
Conventional TVs display visuals at a 50Hz frame rate which means it shows 50 still images per second. Samsung Motion Plus™ runs at 100Hz or 200Hz (dependent on model), twice the rate or more of ordinary televisions, so even the fastest action scenes are precise, clear and blur-free.
Samsung's patented Ultra Clear Panel® technology gives you clear, crisp images without glare. A new anti-reflective coating delivers dramatically darker blacks, vibrant depth of colour and reduced reflection.
Media@2.0
Samsung Medi@2.0 lets your customers enjoy multimedia content from a range of sources.
Internet@TV uses widgets, small internet applications that deliver relevant web content to your TV.
Widgets make it easy to keep track of news, weather, stock markets, sports results and YouTube videos. Connection can be wired or wireless through a Samsung wireless LAN adaptor.
Photo widgets give viewers access to photo sharing services like Flickr® through their wide-screen television.
Samsung Content Library provides pre-loaded material on a range of subjects including cooking, health, games and education. The library can be customised and updated.
USB 2.0 Movie uses a simple USB interface to let your customer play music and videos and view pictures right on their TV screen.
Supports high speeds of up to 480 Mbps.
Supports FAT 16 / 32 files, the type found on USB drives, flash devices and SD cards.
Rewind, fast forward, play, pause and stop buttons on remote control.
Scroll ability. Ideal for larger content.
DLNA (Digital Living Network Alliance) turns the TV into a digital media player so you can watch video and view pictures saved on your PC. A wired or wireless router pairs up the TV and DLNA certified equipment like laptops, PCs and even Samsung's Omnia mobile phone, so content can be streamed from one to the other. DLNA removes the need to copy media onto a USB storage device and then connect the USB to the TV.
4 HDMI
Connect your digital world. HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) inputs transmit pure, uncompressed streams of digital data at the highest resolution. With 4 HDMI inputs (3 rear, 1 side), your TV is equipped with everything it needs to become your personal multimedia hub, allowing you to quickly connect external devices to the TV for an unrivalled audio visual experience.

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 January 2010We are extremely pleased with this set. Having shopped around and compared picture quality we then ordered it from Amazon who were offering a very competitive price. We found it very simple to set up and connect to our network and various sources - we are using it with a Wii, PS3, cable STB, DVD, and a DVI PC (a Mac mini). Plenty of inputs. We have not yet plumped for a surround-sound system but we have the TV outputting to our stereo set-up which we are really happy with. The set handles all of the source material very well - from Blu-ray discs to low-res video files to games - everything looks great and the upscaling on standard resolution material really does make a difference. Also love the way the set swivels easily from side to side to create the optimum viewing angle depending on where people are sitting in the room. We've lived with it for a month now and the only negative thing I can say is we're now spending a lot more time sitting around watching telly!

- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 2 December 2011I have had this TV for 30 months and it has packed up on me. I am faced with a repair bill for around £400 as it appears the main board has failed. I tried to explain to Samsung that this is very poor when paying this much for a TV in this day and age. Getting through to Samsung Customer Service was a major challenge and I was surprised when they accepted that this was good performance from one of their sets !!. After this experience I would not buy another Samsung. I suggest that potential purchasers do a web review on the reliability of Samsung TV's , particularly the cheap capacitors they use before considering a purchase. I wish I had done. Avoid
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 23 December 2009Yes.. its a nice TV, lots of features and very good picture. BUT, for me, its missing one very important feature, a headphone socket.
At the back of the TV there are many connectors but most of them are inputs, there is no analog RCA type audio out connector so you can't just plug this TV into your home cinema system or audio amplifier. And there is no headphone socket on the set so forget about listening to the TV in private or late at night, its not going to happen.
After contacting Samsung UK about the lack of an analog audio output, they suggest that the only way to get an audio output is to use the optical audio output on the back of the set. But they go on to say that they don't guarantee that it will be compatible with any device that you connect to it. They also told me that I should look at the specification before purchasing the set. Nice!... thats just the kind of destructive comment I don't need.
So if you want this TV and want a headphone socket (as I do) then its going to cost you at least another £200 to find an amplifier system that has an optical audio input and headphone socket to give you a system will provide a basic function that should have been designed into the set in the first place
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 25 March 2010After reading through the handbook the TV was set up with no problem. After running the TV for a few weeks I am pleased to report the following:
Visual presentations are superb, and as previous reports have intimated the sound could be better, and would certainly benefit from a surround sound package. Fed with a Blue Ray player the pictures are second to none, feeds from my Humax satellite (FREESAT) receiver also. Terrestrial digital are only very slightly less awe inspiring.
The feed to my PC via LAN cable is being used and photos held on my PC upstairs are displayed vividly.Direct connection to the router after loading the Samsung software to the PC (supplied) allows a Samsung style access to certain of their internet 'Widgets' and not at this time full PC internet.
The USB ports are of great use although a little awkward to get to when the set is mounted on the wall.
I would recommend this Samsung UE46B7020W
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 9 October 2009I was blown away with this TV! out of the box it looks very slim and stylish but the picture needs some tweaking. Dont get me wrong it looks great but after seeing it calibrated before and after, its capable of a lot more than the standard setup. Dont worry about setting it up there are loads of websites with step by step setup instructions.
The chassis is very lightweight and its very easy to hang on the wall. The speakers are on the back and sound great for the size they are. The 100hz feature is great for sports and can be turned off easily for movies etc...
The TV will play music, movies or photo's straight from a USB memory stick. You can also buy an optional USB wireless dongle and use an external wifi hard drive or laptop. Its pretty future proof and well worth the money, the only bad thing is that its now £200 less than when I bought mine......
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 31 October 2009I bought mine a week ago, and the quality of the picture, even on SD Sky is phenomenal. SD picture you think looks almost as good as HD, then when you switch to HD channels, the picture on 720p (Sky HD goes to 720p or 1020i) is almost Blu-Ray esq..
I also bought the Samsung wall mount, which is a bit pricey but is easily the best designed wall mount, very very clever and simple to set up Had it on the wall in 20 mins (most of which was carefully spent measuring distances) The manual is easy to follow, TV set up quickly, and plays everything from USB.
The only thing I would say is not to buy the Wi-Fi dongle, at £55 is a bit expensive, and you are better off running an Ethernet cable straight into the Ethernet port, much faster and cheaper. But still does not detract from what is an amazing piece of kit.
- Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 5 May 2009New technology - LED back light- has made this TV outstanding. My daughter who has a plasma set, wanted to know why the picture was so clear! Also it's a beautiful design (didn't like the red surround of the 40inch model)
I was all ready to buy a Sony - because everyone does - then saw this model, which was just recently on the market. There wasn't any choice...
Unless you're ready to pay £2000+, take a look at this TV in action first. You wont regret it.
